this is me

I grew up in Germany in a small town in the industrial area called "Ruhrgebiet". The kind of place where kids still play around outside, where neighbours still know each other (usually know too much of each other), where if you are planning on meeting up at the McDonalds (yes, THE, there is only one), it is actually in the neighbouring town. I got my first degree, a master of arts in english literature / business & economics / adult education from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, one of the youngest universities in Germany built out of not-quite-so-charming concrete blocks of the 60s style.

Given the above, it didn't take me long to leave the nest and go travelling around the world. I spent quite some time in England, a few months in Luton, a few months in Leeds which is surrounded by beautiful countryside and at the time just started to introduce coffee shops. Trust me that was important at the time (probably still is today). I spent just under a year in Manchester where I made friends that I still consider friends many years later. One of the best memories was a rainy weekend in Wales (it always rains in Wales) where we all ended up having dinner in our PJs as our clothes got soaking wet while hiking in the rain. I lived for many years in London, which I still consider home. No city thus far can beat London. Due to one of my jobs there I was able to travel quite a bit to Paris which I consider a lucky perk.

Today, I live in Texas. Though never a place I considered to be for me, I love it here! I got here on a detour via Michigan where I got my MBA at Michigan State University, ironically one of the older universities in the US with a charming old campus - at least the old part of the campus is charming... Texas got me back to basics, friends, travelling and running. I really hope I don't have to leave here any time soon.
